Description
Few names encapsulate as many contradictions, passions, and historical transformations as that of Eva Perón. This walking tour through the neighbourhoods of Recoleta and Palermo invites visitors to explore the settings where the Evita myth was forged — and where it endures to this day.
The tour begins at the Recoleta Cemetery, the final resting place of Argentina’s most revered and debated historical figure. From there, the walk leads through the cultural heart of the neighbourhood, past the Mariano Moreno National Library — a commanding work of Latin American brutalist architecture —, the Juan Domingo Perón Institute, and Plaza Evita on Avenida del Libertador. On that very ground once stood the Palacio Unzué, the presidential residence where Perón and Eva lived from 1946 to 1955, and whose rooms witnessed some of the defining moments of Peronism. Demolished in 1956 by the dictatorship that overthrew Perón — fearful the site would become a Peronist shrine — its absence today is itself part of the story.
The final destination is the Museo Evita, housed in the former Hogar de Tránsito N.º 2, a shelter founded by Eva Perón herself in 1948. Here you will take part in a guided tour tracing her life, social work, and political legacy through original garments, photographs, and documents of exceptional historical significance.
An essential experience for those wishing to understand twentieth-century Argentina through a cultural, political, and deeply human lens.
